Each year, charming Georgia, the sandwich between Asia and Europe, provides an eventful spectacle of nature phenomenon in staggering proportions. Over a million raptors of 35 different species and other birds migrate through the country, concentrated in one narrow flyway, so called Batumi Bottleneck. We are delighted to share this exceptional event and invite you to the Batumi Birding Festival Week. This particular tour offers excellent opportunity to combine exciting and rather relaxed birding with other highly interesting activities including daily birding excursions with a variety of interests, reception event, raptor count and identification workshop, bird ringing, as well as evening presentations and lectures given by invited top specialists. 50% of tour’s profit will be kindly donated to the conservation of birds of prey in the Batumi Bottleneck.

During daily birding excursions we will visit popular birding hotspots in and around Batumi including both Raptor Viewpoints, Chorokhi Delta, Batumi Harbor and Seaside Park, Botanical Garden, Mtirala Forest, Kolkheti National Park and Maltakva Delta. In the evening we will attend interesting lectures and presentations given by top specialists. During previous years we have been honored to host Andrea Corso, Jonathan Meyrav, Rob Sheldon, Tristan Reid, William (Bill) Clark, David Lindo (The Urban Birder), Richard Porter, Klaus Malling Olsen and other famous persons. Here you will have chance to meet as amateur, so worldwide known top birders and identification specialists, photographers, conservationists, naturalists and just wildlife lovers.
Raptor Viewpoints not far from the the town offer stunning views of the Greater Caucasus mountain range, the Black Sea Coast and the most numerous Honey Buzzard, Black Kite, Marsh, Pallid, Montagu’s and Hen Harrier inline with many other raptor species including Crested Honey Buzzard. Amongst non raptors; Black and White Stork, Crane, Roller, Golden Oriole and thousands of noisy European Bee-eaters.
Other birding hotspots in and around Batumi will allow us to witness impressive diversity of marine, coastal, freshwater and passerine species including frequent and significant passerines, such as Green, Barred, Moustached, Paddyfield, Blyth’s and Booted Warbler, Caucasian (Mountain) Chiffchaff, Bluethroat, Red-breasted Flycatcher, Short-toed Lark, Citrine Wagtail, Siberian and Caspian Stonechat (ssp. variegata), Common and Thrush Nightingale, Isabelline Wheatear, Richard’s and Red-throated Pipit, small groups of Rose-coloured Starling, as well as Krüper’s Nuthatch, found in the Batumi Botanical Garden.
Diversity of ducks also provide a few interesting observations including Ferruginous and White-eyed Duck. Among waders; Collared and Black-winged Pratincole, Purple Swamphen, Little, Spotted and Baillon’s Crake, Terek, Broad-billed and Curlew Sandpiper, Temminck’s Stint, Kentish Plover, Lesser Sand plover, Greater Sand Plover and many more. Gull and Tern lovers may also observe good variety including Heuglin’s, Slender-billed, Armenian and Baltic Gull, Common Tern, Little Tern, Gull-billed Tern, Caspian Tern, Sandwich Tern and Whiskered Tern. Above all this Arctic Skua, Pomarine Skua and Yelkouan Shearwater may bonus with splendid views from ridiculously close range.
